A QR code stores data as a square grid of modules, and the grid grows with the payload: a code holds up to 7,089 digits or 4,296 alphanumeric characters at the lowest error-correction level, though nothing on a label ever gets close. What matters in batch work is the opposite end of the scale: the shorter the value, the coarser the module grid, and the more reliably it scans from a small printed tag. AST-0042 produces a sparse, forgiving code; a 200-character URL with tracking parameters produces a dense one that needs more label area and a steadier camera. When the batch feeds asset tags, encode the short stable ID and put the long URL behind it in your asset system.

Every code in a batch is generated at error-correction level M, which reconstructs the payload with up to 15% of the symbol damaged, the standard trade-off between resilience and density for printed labels. A scuff or a torn corner and the code still reads. That redundancy is also what makes QR practical on equipment that lives outdoors or in a workshop, where a linear barcode with the same damage is simply gone.

The codes are static: the value is encoded directly in the image, so nothing expires and no redirect server can go down between you and your data. The trade-off is that a printed code can't be re-pointed, so if the destination changes, you print a new label. Sequence mode covers the common case where the values don't exist yet: set a prefix, a start number, padding, and a count, and ASSET-001 through ASSET-500 come out ready to print.
